The Three Musketeers
This is one of those “friends” posts. I am part of a trio, a triumverate, a mis-matched but tightly-knit set. These two women and I have known each other since childhood, but welded together as college roommates. We shared an apartment during our days at the University of Kentucky, on the second floor of an old building above the Two Keys, a legendary campus dive bar. On the other side of it was a pornography shop. To say our mothers were not impressed is an understatement…but next door was McDonald’s (my favorite hangov – uh, post-party food was a Big Mac, fries and a Tab. If you’re younger than 50,…

What’s influencing me this month
This is one of my regular posts to share what I’m watching, reading, listening to and following. I hope you’ll find some things that pique your interest. Netflix – Marco Polo This series was introduced to me by my genius niece Vivian on our vacation, and we binged-watched our way through 6 episodes while in North Carolina. My best description of this is Game of Thrones meets with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This was released by Netflix in 2014, and was the 2nd most expensive TV series ever made, after GOT. I don’t understand why it wasn’t better promoted or a bigger hit. It was filmed in places like Khazakstan…

Farmer’s Market
One of my favorite things about summer is FRESH PRODUCE! And from May through September, most Saturday mornings find me at my local farmer’s market (before I hit the weedeater, that is). I grew up on a lot of land without a lot of cash, in an extended family household with decades of country wisdom, and young, strong backs to put that wisdom to use (backs like mine). That meant an enormous garden, weeded and harvested after school or after supper. Then there were hours spent on the front porch, shucking corn, hulling strawberries and stringing beans. When I would grumble, my great-aunt Virgie would cheerfully declare “this’ll taste better…

Who Does She Think She Is?
The bizarre times we live in, what with COVID-19 and all, have put so many of the fluffier things in our lives on hold. It’s grabbed us by the ankles, put us under house arrest, and forced us to have Serious Thoughts. Look deep inside our souls. One of my favorite bloggers today compared living with the pandemic to the Kubler-Ross’s stages of grief. I had planned to write posts about outfits, wonderful places I had been or was going to, cooking classes I’d teach, and lots of wonderful things I hope to still write about, but not this week. I’d been thinking about writing a blog for a while,…

Well, hello there!
Yes, I’ve taken the plunge and decided to start a blog. Is it because all the cool kids are doing it, or because I think I’ll make so much money, I can quit my day job and work from home? Erm, no. I have many blogs I follow as time allows, which I really enjoy. I learn things about fashion, travel and food (all my favorite things), and get fascinating insights on people’s lives in places I’d like to visit or live. Their posts are like letters from friends – remember back in the day when we had to write real letters, on actual paper? I don’t confuse them with…
