Print pants – I’m addicted…

As I look through photos taken in the last few years, I realize I wear print pants a lot more than solid colors. They seem to bring a smile to folks at work, and they offer so many styling options.

Every single pair in this post was bought at Chico’s over the past 5 years (not sponsored, all with my own moolah).

This is the pair that started it – from Chico’s, probably 5 years ago. They are navy twill jeans, with gold tassels printed on them. They felt SO wild and outrageous when I first got them! I always wore them with a navy top and gold tassel necklace. This photo is an excellent example of why a turtleneck is better under a jacket or cardigan for me. I even bought the top below specifically to wear with them.

And then I got this floral pair and thought I’d truly lost my mind! They actually are ankle pants, not leggings, but have plenty of stretch. They have all my favorite colors in them.

About this time, I also started thinking of my outerwear as part of the outfit, unlike the whole of my life before, when I had A Winter Coat that I wore all season. In cold weather, I’m likely to be seen more in the coat than in what’s underneath. This jacket walks a fine line between whimsy and being, erm…elvish.

Are you bored with them yet? I took these hard-working pants to Arizona where I was organizing a conference, and took this photo at the resort – forgive the snooty pose.

The elvish jacket is back, with another floral pair, and my first pair of Over The Knee (OTK) boots, bought end of season last year from Sole Society. I’d stalked them all winter until they went on sale, and I adore them. These pants have an ivory palette that works with everything in my closet that isn’t stark white.

Same trousers again, with my Talbots post-Christmas sale sweater and Ecco oxfords which you’ll see on their way to Italy last summer, with the floral pants at https://mksadventure.com/2020/03/17/serious-shoes. This photo was from a trip down to Charlotte NC to watch our alma mater, the University of Kentucky, play in a college football bowl game (we won in a exciting finale). This house is in southwestern Virginia, and belonged to my grandparents in the 1930s. There’s a brick walkway between the boxwood hedges that my father laid in a herringbone pattern while a teenager.

Forgive the quality of this photo, but it’s to show that not all my prints are florals. This geometric pattern I love wearing with black, white and RED! Will branch out into other colors as well…The cream Talbot’s blazer (also post-Christmas sale) has a detachable faux-fur collar – LOVE!

Oh, how I love me some leopard! Same hard-working jacket as above, with tan suede ankle boots. I tend to wear these pants with cream, black or tan. Haven’t made the move to animal prints with colors yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there.

The leopard pants made the trip to AZ as well, where I finally met in person the fabulous Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style https://www.jtouchofstyle.com!

And here they are in my office with a 15-yr-old suede blazer from NY & Co., and an illustration of how a turtleneck looks better on me.

I think what I like best about print pants is they say “I’m not shy. I’m not trying to fade into the woodwork and hoping you don’t notice I’m there. I’m not tall and I’m not young, but I AM to be reckoned with, and you’d do well to pay attention.”

This style may pass out of fashion and print pants will be “so nineteen-teens”, but I hope not too soon, and I hope that you enjoy seeing and wearing them yourselves.
